|International Day of Peace|
Today, September 21st, LMS observed the International Day of Peace...
...with an all school assembly. With the LMS students, faculty and staff gathered in two concentric circles, Aline and Tarrence spoke about the meaning of the Day and read the words of Lao Tzu and Buddha (see below). After singing "Light a Candle for Peace", and an explanation of the LMS Peace Pole by Sue G, the assembly walked in silence through the building and around the Peace Pole. The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly as an annual day of non-violence and cease fire.
If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.
- Lao Tzu
Silence is a source of great strength.
- Lao Tzu
Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.
