Answers to Questions About Donating to LMS

What is the difference between the Annual Projects Fund* and other kinds of giving?
All giving really helps! Specifically, contributions to the Annual Projects Fund go immediately into the school’s budget to support improvments happening all over campus during the summer and also throughout the school year. Schools run Campaigns when needed for big projects, i.e., the 19 Acres for the 21st Century, but the Annual Projects Fund supports smaller yearly needs. The Annual Projects Fund starts on July 1st of each year and runs through June 30th; whereas a Campaign typically spans many years.

Who is asked for gifts?
Everyone in the school community—Board members, parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, as well as faculty and staff. LMS strives to reach 100% faculty and parent participation. Every Board member made a contribution in 2018 and we also had 100% faculty/staff participation.

How much should I give?
What you give is entirely up to you. Every gift is important and appreciated. We hope you will join us in contributing at whatever level you are capable of giving. Last year, individual gifts to the Annual Projects Fund ranged from $5 to $35,000.

We already pay tuition, why do we need to donate money to the school?
The Annual Projects Fund helps keep tuitions as low as possible. Like almost all independent schools, tuition does not cover the full cost of a Lexington Montessori School education.

How are contributions used to benefit the school?
Your investment in the Annual Projects Fund supports all areas of the school: arts, athletics, technology, financial aid, teacher compensation, campus improvement.

Why is it so important to participate?
All gifts to the Annual Projects Fund matter. High participation in the Annual Projects Fund demonstrates that the school community is strong and believes in the mission and work of the institution.

If my family recieves financial aid and I donate to the LMS ProjectsFund will it affect my aid?
No. There is no correlation. 100% family participation is the goal.

What kind of recognition will I get for giving?
Your gift will be acknowledged in the Annual Report, which is distributed each fall and lists all donors to the school.  You can make your gift anonymously, if you prefer, by directing the Community Development Office not to list your name.

Do other schools raise money or is this just something LMS does?
Almost every independent school in the country has an Annual Giving Program. It is an important tool to enhance children’s educational experience.

What is a matching gift?
Many companies will match charitable contributions by their employees. The company helps to support worthy causes and the employee can maximize the amount donated to the charity. Many LMS parents work for companies that have a matching gifts program—please check with your human resources department to see if your employer will match your gift.
