Answers to Questions About Donating to LMS

What is the difference between the Projects Fund* and other kinds of giving?
All giving really helps! Specifically, contributions to the Projects Fund support improvments happening all over campus during the summer and also throughout the school year. The Food Forest that was developed through the fall of 2019 is a great example of a project that this Fund helps to support.

Gifts to this year's Fund drive will also move the school into Phase II of the Master Campus Plan. GROWING INTO OUR FUTURE inside and out! Outside: A much-needed covered dismissal area will finally become a reality, and dozens of trees will be planted throughout the campus. Inside: We hope to enhance the STEM curriculum by increasing and updating our 3D printer capabilities.

Who is asked for gifts?
Everyone in the school community—Board members, parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, as well as faculty and staff. Board member participation is at 100% every year and faculty and staff have also given at 100% consistently over the years.

How much should I give?
What you give is entirely up to you. Every gift is important and appreciated. We hope you will join us in contributing at whatever level you are capable of giving. Last year, individual gifts to the Projects Fund ranged from $5 to $45,000.

We already pay tuition, why do we need to donate money to the school?
The Projects Fund helps keep tuitions as low as possible. Like almost all independent schools, tuition does not cover the full cost of ensuring that Lexington Montessori School is a place of excellence.

How are contributions used to benefit the school?
Your investment in the Projects Fund supports all areas of the school. As explained in the first question, the Food Forest is a new and exciting project made possible by this Fund and now the school is moving into Phase II of the Campus Master Plan due to the generosity of the community.

Why is it so important to participate?
All gifts to the Projects Fund matter. High participation in the Projects Fund demonstrates that the school community is strong and believes in the mission and work of the institution.

If my family recieves financial aid and I donate to the LMS Projects Fund will it affect my aid?
No. There is no correlation. 100% family participation is the goal.

What kind of recognition will I get for giving?
Your gift will be acknowledged in the Annual Report of Giving, which is distributed each year and lists all donors to the school. You can make your gift anonymously, if you prefer, by directing the Community Development Office not to list your name.

Do other schools raise money or is this just something LMS does?
Almost every independent school in the country has an Annual Giving Program. It is an important tool to enhance children’s educational experience.

What is a matching gift?
Many companies will match charitable contributions by their employees. The company helps to support worthy causes and the employee can maximize the amount donated to the charity. Many LMS parents work for companies that have a matching gifts program—please check with your human resources department to see if your employer will match your gift. The Development Office is happy to help you with this process in anyway possible.
