You may notice your Lower Elementary child mention they had a Digital Citizenship lesson lately and be curious what that means. At LMS, we offer Digital Citizenship lessons from 1st through 8th grade using Common Sense Education's curriculum. A Digital Citizen is someone who uses technology safely and responsibly. In LE, First Years receive one lesson, Middlers receive two lessons and Elders receive three. These lessons offer a balance of learning Digital Citizenship from the following lenses:
- Privacy & Safety
- Relationships & Communication
- Cyberbullying & Online Harms
- Healthy Habits
- Digital Footprint & Identity
- Information & Media Literacy
In addition to the lessons we teach at school, Common Sense Education offers resources for families to help children develop a deeper understanding of how to stay safe and respectful online. These are available in English and Español. I hope you can set aside some time to do these activities with your child at home.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need support.
