In LE, Middles and Elders have been busy during library lessons.
Middles are moving on from fiction/nonfiction and facts/opinions to explore character traits. Starting next week, students will identify character traits in books that we read. They will also think about some of their own traits.
Elders learned about nonfiction text features - parts that most nonfiction books have, such as table of contents, glossary, index, bold text, headings, captions, etc. They used a collection of nonfiction books from our library to find examples of these features. Now they are exploring print and online encyclopedias to gather information for country research.
Please note that after talking with the LE team, we decided to make some minor changes the library schedule. Instead of library lessons including a mix of students from across classrooms, each classroom will have their own library time. Elders and Middles will switch off from week to week for the remainder of the fall and the winter. First Years will begin library lessons in the spring. This switch was made to support teachers in having full grade levels present for lessons in the classroom.
