Today CH2 children had the opportunity to explore materials in the library beyond books. They sequenced story puzzles, created worlds and objects with blocks and Magnetiles, drew, looked at the world through colored blocks, and used our breathing boards with their fingers and a small ball. These materials are new this year and I will be rolling out their use with all classrooms in the New Year. Of course, books will always be our main focus, but these materials are great hands-on extensions for their learning.
I also read "Say Zoop: A book of sound" by Henré Tullet to the classes recently. You may be familiar with this author through "Press Start," which is a very popular children's book. The students really loved the interactive nature of the book. The teachers and I love that it helps children practice playing with different sounds, sound patterns, and tones of voice to support their pre-literacy skills.
