LMS Art

It has been wonderful to meet our new students and reconnect with returning ones, and to see the children enjoying art.

We read I am an Artist by Pat Lowry Collins and discussed what makes the students feel creative. The children then expressed their creativity through finger painting lessons on their Art folders. The folders will stay at school along with their Art pieces until the end of the school year. During the lesson, they were introduced to using primary colors to set a foundation for future lessons on the color wheel. Finger painting is a sensory experience that engages the tactile sense and allows children to use their hands as their first art tools.

For the following lesson, we read Swimmy by Leo Lionni. Students explored mixing the Primary colors to get Secondary colors and added black and white to create an ocean scene inspired by the illustrations in Swimmy. They discovered the effect black and white has on colors. The children used paint brushes and sponges to create shapes and textures of marine life and the ocean.
