Elder Farming Update

LMS Farm

Our elders have officially wrapped up their fall farming term, and we’re so proud of all they accomplished! In the final weeks, they completed several exciting solanaceae (nightshade) projects. Students created informative seed packets for the nightshade seeds they saved and even made their own handmade paper using nightshade leaves, a beautiful blend of science, creativity, and sustainability.

With a little extra time in the garden, we harvested crisp, sweet fall carrots straight from the soil and enjoyed tasting fresh bok choy and scarlet kale.

For many of our elders, this term marked the culmination of a three-season farming journey that began when they were first years. They have grown in skill, confidence, and stewardship, and they are now ready to take on new responsibilities on the farm and in the community next year as UE students!
