Our toddler classes have officially begun their fall farming term now that everyone is settled into their classrooms. Fall is a wonderful season of abundance, perfect for exploring the many fruits and vegetables ready for harvest.
So far, our young farmers have picked spoon tomatoes, the world’s tiniest tomato, and scrubbed freshly harvested fall carrots. These hands-on experiences help children connect directly with the foods we grow and eat, while also building hand-eye coordination, strengthening their fine motor skills, and developing a sense of contribution and responsibility within our school community.
As you may have seen in the weekly classroom updates, food tasting is also part of my work with the toddler community. Each Monday, I visit the toddler classes to introduce a new crop from our school gardens for the children to explore that week. We love to include a mix of both familiar favorites and new flavors to try. If your toddler discovers a new favorite, we invite you to stop by the farm stand to pick some up and continue the tasting at home!
